RICAGV Executive Director Linda Finn Featured on In the Area
Providence, Rhode Island (April 24, 2019)– The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence (RICAGV) Executive Director, Linda Finn was featured on this week’s Easter episode of Mayor Joe Paolino’s show “In The Arena” on Sunday. Linda Finn, who spoke alongside activist Dr. Melissa Jenkins Mangili, discussed the work of RICAGV to pass common sense gun safety bills and promote a safer Rhode Island.
Speaking to the Coalition’s commitment to engage the youth organizers who are most impacted by the threat of gun violence, Finn introduced the background of the Coalition’s youth engagement campaign. “We had been doing youth engagement with youth across the state who have become motivated since Parkland because they are the mass shooting generation. They are kids who grew up with lockdown drills. They remember Sandy Hook.”
Jenkins discussed the overwhelming support of a ban on guns in schools in Cranston. “The Coalition Against Gun Violence was active when the Cranston Action Network worked to get the Cranston City Council to pass a resolution in support of a ban on guns in schools,” said Dr. Melissa Jenkins Mangili “this has lead to the momentum that this is now being introduced at the state level.”
The Coalition Against Gun Violence is thankful for the chance to articulate the intricacies of this important issue on “In the Arena”. RICAGV remains committed to continuing these conversations around the need to pass policies that will prevent school shootings and all gun violence.
