The Firearms Industry is the Last Public Health Problem Unaddressed by Policymakers
The number of states where gun deaths outpace motor vehicle deaths has been growing steadily for the last 5 years. This fact correlates to the aggressive consumer push of the NRA coupled with the juggernaut of their lobby in state legislatures and the U.S. Congress.
A January 2016 analysis of federal Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) data shows gun deaths outpacing motor vehicle deaths in 21 states and D.C. in 2014. This is even more alarming when we consider that 9 out of 10 households have a motor vehicle, yet less than a third have a gun.
