After the resolution was defeated at the May 28th meeting, a member is offering a minor modification and now the council will reconsider once again this resolution that is specifically designed to further divide the residents of Tiverton.

Dozens of attendees heard from featured speakers Major Michael Jagoda and Little Compton Student Catherine Sawoski who spoke eloquently about the need for sensible gun safety reform BEFORE an incident occurs in Rhode Island.
Major Michael Jagoda
URI Police Major, Executive Officer, University Police
Prior to Major Jagoda’s position at URI he was a decorated Connecticut State Police commander with 22 years of law enforcement experience. He was one of the first responders to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012, as well as having experienced first hand shooting situations where the life of his fellow officers hung in the balance. Major Jagoda testified at the RI House Judiciary Committee hearings in March 2019 and will speak at the RICAGV meeting in Tiverton about why common-sense gun safety bills are needed to reduce gun violence as an everyday occurance and also to protect schools and communities from the ever increasing incidences of mass shootings.

As a local student Catherine has grown up in the era of lock-down drills and active shooter threats. She will share her unique perspective and also ways in which activism with High School Democrats of America helps to make our schools and communities safer in Rhode Island.
